Speed workout

After a mile warmup, I planned to run a ladder workout: 800, 600, 400, 600, 800. I made all except the last 800. Times: 3:21, 2:25, 1:32, 2:26. I wasn't that disappointed about not making the 800 -- I simply don't quite have the strength yet. It was about 4 miles total.

But I do figure I might be on about 22-minute 5K pace right now.

Miles on new shoes: 72.5

It must have been exciting running in Eugene, possibly in the very footsteps of "Pre." Sounds like you are making some good progress. When will you do a mile time trial? I've been whittling away at my mile time this year, and have it down to 5:28.5 (still a long ways from the 5-minute goal)!

Keep running the good race!

Hi Mark,

I don't plan to run a mile time trial -- I'm actually altering my goal a bit. I'm focusing on running a good 5K this year, then maybe take a run at the mile next year. My progress has been great -- if I can get to 21 minutes for a 5K this year, I'll be happy, and that looks within reach. But I can't come close to the 5-minute mile yet. The best thing is I've had a stretch of good health and progress, and I just want that to continue.

Thanks for writing, and congratulations on your progress. I wish I were as close as you are. Take care,
